Here’s an awesome way to spend a Saturday (or a Sunday, or any other day). Make a trip to the Heritage Transport Museum in Gurgaon. This place is pretty much a hidden treasure. If you are a car buff, you will love it. They have a decent collection of old cars (over 75 of them); a large number of non-motorized transports; a bunch of two-wheelers; a railway coach belonging to a Maharaja; an airplane; some boats; buses and vans; and all these put together very tastefully.
You don’t need to be a car buff to visit though. It is a great place to go to with children as well. Very educational, a lot of fun. I visited with our 4 year old and she had a ton of fun (and her favorite was the pink car of course). There is an auditorium which plays educational movies that children can enjoy during the visit.
They have something good going. We felt very welcome by all the staff there. I hope to see them expand and become bigger and better (for instance, the cafe is pretty basic and could use an upgrade).
Getting there is easy – though it is a bit on the farther side. It takes about 45-60 minutes depending on traffic and how you drive. I recommend that you take NH8 and not the route through Sohna to get there. Here it is on the map (also a map is embedded below). I recommend that a visit once should definitely be taken – though it is worth visiting again and again.
Or at least some of the best. I am talking about Cocktails and Dreams Speakeasy in Sector 15, Gurgaon. Absolutely, my favorite place in Gurgaon these days. The cocktails are great (in Gurgaon, the bars in Oberoi are probably the only ones which can keep up, but these guys are better). They know their cocktails well (not so common in Gurgaon or in India in general). They sure look like they are having fun when working there – always adds that extra to your experience of a place.
It is a small place, located in the corner of the market in Sector 15. Not obvious at all (after all, it is called a speakeasy). Not too many tables, and the place gets busy. But if you get there early enough, you should be able to get in – although I have only been there on weekdays. The cocktails and the ambiance is great. However, what makes this place even better is that the food is awesome as well. Almost everything on the menu is awesome (though I am not a fan of their Cheesecake). Try the “pig in a blanket” or the “apple pie with custard” – they are great.
The music is wide ranging (one time, they only had Michael Learns To Rock playing song after song – brought back memories). Overall, great experience. You definitely want to have the option of a designated driver or a cab since chances are you will certainly have one too many at this place.
I am not an avid birdwatcher. Yes, that’s right, NOT an avid birdwatcher. However, I still like to go out with my camera and my binoculars every so often and spend time watching these amazing and beautiful creatures. While the charm of going out to national parks and remote jungles is something else, it is not very practical to do on a regular basis. So, you have to figure out the local haunts.
Here’s a list of some places that I have been to personally – this list is a small subset of birding places around NCR. I have also included some photos that I took at these spots.
